SUFFERING RACES CLOSES ITS DOORS

September 5th, 2017

It’s with great sadness that today Obstacle Race Magazine brings you the news that Suffering Races will be closing its doors and cancelling all future races. The Suffering Race series well know for its brutal OCR based endurance challenges has seen a down turn in ticket sales as the market place has offered up more and more choice to racers. Its next event was scheduled for the 23rd of September and also scheduled was the June 2018 event.

Heres the Official closing Statement from Suffering Races

It is with a heavy heart that we are having to close The Suffering Race Series.

After many difficult conversations over the last few days, the outcome has sadly lead us to the same end. Simply put, we are unable to fund the standard of race, in terms of quality and safety, both you and we expect from The Suffering Team.

This does mean that both the race on the 23rd September 2017 at Rockingham Motor Speedway and the 23/24 June 2018 race at Rockingham Castle can not take place.

We have had to bring in a liquidation firm to deal with the closure, a process new to us and challenging in itself. As you can imagine this is not an easy time for us, however we know that many of you will want to know what course of action you can take, which, of course, we fully understand.

Contact Information

An administrator has been appointed and we will give out the details once all the paperwork has been signed.

We are going to work with them as best we can to see if there is anyway to find some funds for some element of refund, however we have already been told it is unlikely. Each time you contact the liquidation company they will charge us a fee, which increases this likelihood. We appreciate this is frustrating but we will keep you informed of all matters.

Our Closing Thoughts

This was not an easy decision, in fact it is one of the hardest we have ever made. The Suffering has always been a labour of love for us and we were always inspired by the camaraderie and spirit of the OCR community. We have worked every spare hour of the day over the past 4 years and built a brand into hopefully a well-loved / hated race.

The hours put in by our friends and families have astounded us. Our crew have worked their socks off in the most gruelling of conditions to get the races ready. Everyone involved in our races and our brand have been incredible and there is no way we can thank them enough for the journey we have been on.

It pains us that the reason to close such an epic event is money. We have been personally funding any shortfall of the races for the past 4 years. We did it because we believed in the brand, we believed in OCR and we believed in The Suffering Race Series. In the end, the deficit was too much, to take on anymore would risk losing homes, etc. If the market was stronger, we would have taken the risk but numbers are down across the board on all races and with an increasing number of start-up races in the country there aren’t enough runners to go around.

Rightly or wrongly, we held true to the principles that started the company. We wanted to put on a safe, tough, epic event with great swag and the best merch quality available. We wanted to create something to be proud of; something that you could be proud of in taking them on. We could have reduced quality in all areas to save money but we didn’t think it was the right thing to do.

We have made some amazing friends over the years of building The Suffering so, when we get asked was it all worth it, would we do it again? The answer will always be “damn right we would”. It’s very rare in life you get the opportunity to build something special and make long lasting friends along the way. The joy, pain and accomplishment we saw in people’s eyes as they cross the finish line will never leave us. For us it was worth it because of you.

Just to reiterate, please know that our number one priority during this difficult time, is to see if we can find any funds to help towards your loss. However we can’t promise anything at all at this stage.

To all of you, whether we’ve met or not. Thank you, it’s been a blast!

The Suffering Team

ORM ADVICE

If you paid on a debit card and have no insurance, use the Charge Back mechanism and you should still get your money back, fingers crossed
